Orphaned in infancy, Heidi is raised by her Aunt Dete until a change of circumstances sees the girl placed into the care of her paternal grandfather. A curmudgeonly recluse living in the Swiss Alps, he’s soon won over by Heidi, who blossoms in the mountain environment. The idyllic existence is threatened, however, when Aunt Dete reappears, wanting Heidi to return to city life.
